Volumes spoken in three little words,
Hopeless to try and describe the feelings they stir.
Three words pushed tentatively out into the air.
Hang there, unanswered, for what seems like eternity.
Softly they flutter toward the subject of their being
Gently caress the cheeks of the one that they encapsulate.
They linger there and softly echo into “I trust you”,
“Respect you”, “honour you”, “cherish you”.
So much meaning in three little words.
I knew before I uttered them that you wouldn’t reply,
I know not the feelings they stir in you.
You don’t feel that way about me,
Either you don’t feel it at all, or you are just afraid to fall,
Because of past anguish
Caused
By three little words.

It doesn’t matter
Those words still stand
I cannot change their meaning or their truth.
May they embrace you when you are needy,
Encourage you when you are disillusioned,
May my three little words be enough for both of us
For now. For always. Or until yours
Are joined with mine, to make them seven.
