You’re not here for long,
But your presence touches me
like a downy feather brushing lightly against my face.
I am confident and secure in you now,
Secure enough to release you to the world again,
secure enough to let you go,
Because I know, you will return.
I have lately been hysterical,
paranoia born of absence,
of too few words shared,
Creating a feeling that we are not a part of each other’s lives,
But this security I feel tells me that we are together even when we are not,
Our souls are bonded through laughter,
United by joy,
Drawn together by common experience, common pain.
And besides, every time you go away
I can still smell you,
your delicate perfume hangs in the air around me,
Rubbed off from your body onto my hair and clothes,
So every time I move you are here with me,
Your soft warm cheek against mine,
Your strong gentle arms around me,
You rock me to sleep in a cradle of stars.
