Books I am reading, need to finish and have yet to start

This is just a list with a quick summary and my opinion of those books I have read.  For more in-depth reviews (if any) see my journal.  Reviews will be entitled REVIEW: followed by the name of the book.  If you want to buy any of these click the link.  If you have any recommendations, comment!

Books I have read this year:

The Son of God is Dancing by Adrian and Bridget Plass.

This book is about the AIDS crisis in Africa, specifically in this case, a look at Zambia, and the work of Vision Aid to bring hope in the wake of the terrible disease wiping out so many, and how it is able to be part of the cure and prevention.  The tide can be turned... What are you doing to help?

One Child by Torey Hayden

One of the leftovers of a reading-spree I had a year ago where I was very into books that described true cases of child abuse, during which time I read "A Child Called It".  That book in particular was so shocking, that I stopped reading this kind of book altogether.  I came home this holiday to find One Child on my shelf and decided to read it.  I found it refreshing, bitterly sad and yet full of hope.  It is the story of how one teacher reached out and touched the soul of a little girl who everyone else had given up on.  Torey Hayden is an inspiration to us all.

The Sacred Romance by John Eldredge and Brent Curtis

Fantastic book which will touch you in places you may have forgotten existed.  The true quest for the heart, and God's real purpose for every human being on this planet.  A message of passionate love to every heart. Read it NOW!

Wild at Heart by John Eldredge

Book written primarily for men, to help them find who they truly are in God.  A pleasant and easy to read book, but challenging and relevant at the same time.  I thoroughly recommend it to both men and women (though it seems women get more out of it than men!)

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime by Mark Haddon
on AUDIO CD, Read by Ben Tipper

Excellent "murder mystery" told from the point of view of a boy with asberger's syndrome.  It offered some real insight into the syndrome for me, and although I realise that his symptoms are not identical to everyone suffering from asbergers, it has helped me understand it a little better.  In this particular reading, Ben Tipper is fantastic.

The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel  (finished 3/3/06)

Really good in-depth analysis of Christ from many different scholarly perspectives.  Written by an ex-atheist and trained barrister, it offers some interesting arguments and might help people who are searching for the truth objectively, either in itself, or as a starting point.  For me, it was a good read and gave me some more facts and figures for a faith I already have.

Intercessory Prayer by Dutch Sheets   (finished 5/3/06)

I really can't praise this book highly enough!!  It's SUCH a good read, with really awesome stories to inspire and some fantastic insights and perspectives into something which has always been something of a mystery:  being a prayer warrior, interceeding in an effective manner.  It answers such questions as "Why do we NEED to pray?"  "Do our prayers make a difference?"  It will leave you excited and wanting to re-read parts so that you can put the advice into practise.  I thoroughly recommend it.

The Two Towers by JRR Tolkien  (finished 5/3/06)

What can I say? I LOVE these books!!  I just wish it wouldn't take me so long to finish them.  I had only the last three chapters to read (put it down around September, just got round to picking it up again this weekend)  The chapter Shelob's Lair and The Choices of Master Samwise are so fantastic, I read them aloud to myself, some awesome spiritual lessons to be learned from some of the content of the book.  Great adventure, fantastic characters, brilliant read.  But I'm a fan, don't take my word for it, judge for yourself!

Books I am reading:

The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun

Recommended by JR.
