OK, so I'd love your opinions and views on today's Messianic Prophecy. I know what I think and I've asked my dad about it, and would love to discuss it further.
The Propecy is amazing in that it is given in Genesis, at the earliest possible point, at the fall itself. I quote from the King James Version for a very specific reason that you will see later...
Genesis 3:15a
"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
OK, and here, the fullfilment, even though this is pretty obvious:
Luke 1:34-35
" 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."
Now this is terribly interesting to me, not simply because the Messiah is prophecied at the Fall itself (showing that God had a plan for the salvation of humanity already!) but because the prophecy is given specifically to woman and the Serpent (Satan). The Messiah who would stamp on the Serpent (bruise his head) would be the SEED of a woman. This to me denotes virgin birth, as is it not usually MEN who are said to have seed? Is it not normally to a man that a prophecy like this is made?
My father thinks it is not so specific and is given as a promise/prophecy to all, women and men, as Adam was there, and we read it now through scripture, but I think it is very interesting that this particular word is used (in this version at least!)
That said, there is no denying that this prophecy (repeated elsewhere in the Old Testament, by other prophets, tells us that the Messiah will be born as a man, and would be the one to defeat Satan, though Satan would attempt to "bite his heel" (the Crucifiction)
Discuss :)
