Why is it one would want
To crush a precious gem
To trample a lovely flower
And tear it from its stem
To take from nature beauty
And dormant make it lay
And hold it underfoot
And lifeless make it stay
Disappointing it would seem
This case should come to light
But indeed it’s true some out there
Have precious little sight
To want to burn a forest
Or break an old Ming vase
To trample a beautiful flower
Truly is a big disgrace
I’d like to leave a pleasant thought
And give hope before I’m done
Strong roots withstand and sprout again
With help from a loving sun
The rain brings with it life again
In spite of hateful men
With all its needs richly restored
A gem of a flower blooms again
